This is because, to escape the scorching heat, everyone runs ACs and coolers to keep their offices and homes cool and comfortable. Most people experience considerable anxiety regarding their monthly electricity bills. In fact, during this season, appliances ranging from coolers to ACs run day and night, making electricity bills high and inevitable. However, if you install solar panels on your home’s rooftop under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, your Electricity Bill could drop to zero.
Subsidies Available
Under this scheme, subsidies are being provided for installing solar panels in homes. A key highlight is that the deadline to avail the benefits of this scheme has been set for March 2027. Consequently, this scheme could prove extremely beneficial for households that currently receive monthly electricity bills of up to ₹5,000. The authorities are appealing to the public to submit applications in large numbers.
What is the PM Surya Ghar Yojana?
The objective of launching the PM Surya Ghar Yojana is to connect people to clean energy and reduce their electricity costs. Under this scheme, solar panels are installed on residential rooftops, and the electricity generated from them is utilised for domestic purposes.
How Much Subsidy Will You Receive?
If you were to install solar panels without any subsidy, you would typically have to pay between ₹60,000 and ₹80,000 per kilowatt. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, however, you receive 40% to 60% of this cost back as a government subsidy. The government has categorised this assistance into three tiers:
– If you install a 1 kW system, the government will provide you with a subsidy of up to ₹30,000.
– If you install a 2 kW plant, you will be granted a subsidy of up to ₹60,000.
– Meanwhile, for the installation of a 3 kW plant or a larger system, a subsidy of ₹78,000 is provided.
How to Apply?
Applications for this scheme can be submitted online. To apply, a smart prepaid meter connection, an Aadhaar card, a bank account, and a mobile number are required. If you wish to avail of a loan, you must also provide a PAN card and an email ID. In case of any difficulties during the application process, assistance is also available at the electricity department’s office.
What is the Total Cost?
According to officials, the cost of installing a solar system ranges from approximately ₹80,000 to ₹200,000. Applicants also have access to loan facilities with instalment payments. As per the information available, loans of up to ₹200,000 can be obtained at an interest rate of approximately 7 percent.
