Millions of farmers across the country are awaiting the 21st installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. The government released the 20th installment in August this year, with the expectation that the next installment would arrive before the festivals. Although the festivals have passed and the Bihar elections are over, the 21st installment has still not reached farmers’ bank accounts. Under the scheme, farmers receive three installments of Rs 2,000 each year, providing a total of Rs 6,000 per year.

Which farmers can get Rs 4,000?

According to a Financial Express report, approximately 100 million farmers were included in the beneficiary list as of August this year. However, due to deficiencies in e-KYC and other eligibility criteria, the 20th installment of millions of farmers was withheld. These farmers will receive the outstanding balance of the previous installment along with the upcoming payment. Those whose funds were held up due to technical reasons may receive a one-time payment of Rs. 4,000.

Major changes to the installment schedule this year

The payment gap in 2025 has increased significantly compared to last year. In 2024, installments were released every few months. However, in 2025, the 19th installment arrived on February 24th, and the 20th installment was deposited on August 2nd, a gap of more than five months. Now, the year is coming to an end, and the 21st installment has not yet been announced.

Possible Reasons Behind the Delay

There has been no official statement from the government, but several reasons are being speculated. The central government is conducting a large-scale verification campaign to exclude fake or ineligible farmers from the scheme. Re-verification of e-KYC, land ownership data, and eligibility of beneficiaries is still ongoing in many states. Sources indicate that payments may be released in late November or early December 2025, once all verifications are complete.

When will the 21st installment arrive?

The next installment will be released once the documents of eligible farmers are fully verified. Indications indicate that the government may deposit the 21st installment into farmers’ bank accounts by the end of November or the first week of December 2025. The official date is yet to be announced.

Who is eligible?

The scheme benefits only Indian citizens who own agricultural land. To qualify, e-KYC must be completed, Aadhaar card must be linked to the bank account, and land records must be verified by the state government.

Process to complete e-KYC

  1. Farmers can visit the official website, pmkisan.gov.in, and open the e-KYC section.
  2. Verification is completed by entering the Aadhaar number and mobile number and submitting an OTP.
  3. Upon successful verification, the farmer’s information is updated on the portal.
