PM Kisan Yojana- If you want to get a new registration done under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, then this news is very important for you. Now the central government has made farmer ID mandatory in 14 states to add a new name in this scheme. That is, without a farmer ID , you will not be able to avail the benefits of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The central government has taken this step so that the benefits of the scheme reach only the real and eligible farmers, and there is no scope for middlemen or fake registration. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur informed about this change. He also said that at present the government has no proposal under consideration to increase the annual amount of Rs 6,000.

What is PM-Kisan Yojana?

PM-Kisan Yojana was launched in February 2019. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers who have cultivable land. Under this scheme, eligible farmers are sent Rs 6,000 every year in three equal installments directly to their bank account linked to Aadhaar. This amount is given through direct benefit transfer. According to government data , since the inception of the scheme, more than Rs 3.90 lakh crore has been given to the farmers through 20 installments.

Why is farmer ID necessary ?

The government says that Kisan ID has been made mandatory so that the money reaches the final beneficiary properly and the process is transparent. This will eliminate the role of middlemen and farmers will get direct benefit. State governments have adopted many methods to make registration of farmers easier, such as

  • Self Registration.
  • Through Common Service Centre ( CSC) .
  • Operator mode of State Agriculture or Revenue officials.
  • Assisted Mode.
  • Through these methods, complaints arising during registration can be resolved by the officials at local level.

Who is not eligible?

The benefit of this scheme is available only to those farmers who have cultivable land. Those whose income is high or who hold any other government post are not eligible for this scheme.
