Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in August 2014 to promote financial inclusion. The primary objective of this ground-breaking scheme is to provide access to banking services to every citizen so they can manage their financial activities easily. This scheme provides financial assistance and security to the poor, vulnerable sections of society, and those living in remote areas who are excluded from banking access.
The Amazing Benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
PMJDY is not just a bank account. it is a strong bridge to financial security and government benefits.
Zero Balance Basic Savings Account

Under this scheme, every eligible Indian citizen can open a basic savings bank account without any minimum balance requirement. This account makes deposits and withdrawals extremely easy. However, it is important to note that cash withdrawals are limited to four times a month.
Small Account Facility
Small bank accounts can also be opened under PMJDY, which do not require extensive documentation. This account is valid for 12 months, and can be extended for another 12 months if you submit valid documents within the first 12 months.
Free RuPay Debit Card and Insurance Protection
PMJDY account holders are provided with a free RuPay debit card. This card includes accident insurance cover of ₹2 lakh (₹1 lakh for those who opened the account before August 28, 2018). This facility provides great relief in case of emergencies.
₹10,000 Overdraft Facility
Under this scheme, you can also avail an overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000. This is a small loan that provides immediate access to funds when needed. This facility has now been increased from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000.
