Pm Internship

PM Internship Scheme 2026: The Central Government is taking several significant steps for the youth, which are yielding benefits on a large scale. You must have surely heard about the Central Government’s PM Internship Scheme, which is proving to be highly beneficial.

To make this scheme more inclusive, the Central Government has decided to implement significant changes to the eligibility criteria. Following these new changes, it is crucial to understand the updated rules. Previously, the age limit for this scheme was set between 21 and 24 years. This has now been expanded to cover the age group of 18 to 25 years. Additionally, a decision has been taken to increase the financial assistance provided to the interns.

key highlights

  • Age limit expanded – Now from 18 to 25 years (previously 21–24 years).
  • Monthly stipend increased – Now ₹9,000 per month (up from ₹5,000).
    • 90% borne by the Central Government
    • 10% borne by the company
  • Additional one-time assistance – ₹6,000 paid in two installments.
  • Objective – Bridge the gap between academic degrees and corporate job readiness, aligning with the New Education Policy (NEP).

How Much Will the Stipend Be?

Under the third phase of the pilot project, the Central Government will now provide a monthly financial assistance of ₹9,000 to selected interns. Of this amount, 90 per cent will be directly borne by the government, while the remaining 11 per cent will be borne by the company.

The government will also provide an additional assistance amount of ₹6,000, disbursed in instalments. Inn the previous phase, this stipend stood at ₹5,000 per month; considering the needs of the youth, this amount has now been nearly doubled.

Decision Taken in View of the NEP

Keeping the objectives of the New Education Policy (NEP) in mind, the Ministry took this decision following consultations with the Department of Higher Education. Furthermore, it is often observed that while students obtain degrees from their colleges, they face difficulties in securing employment due to a lack of practical understanding of the corporate world. To bridge this gap, the government has launched the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.

Important Conditions for Final-Year Students

A specific mandatory condition has also been laid down for final-year students. Students applying for the scheme are required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective college or institution. Additionally, this certificate must be issued by the Department’s HOD, Dean, or Principal, confirming that the internship will not have any negative impact on the student’s studies.
