Driving Licence Renewal: Having a valid driving license is mandatory to drive in India. It not only serves as an official identity document but also gives you the right to drive safely on the road. Typically, a driving license is issued with a validity of ten years. However, driving after the expiry date is considered a legal offense. Therefore, if your license is about to expire or has already expired, it is crucial to renew it on time. In today’s digital age, renewing a driving license has become much easier than before, and you can complete the entire process online from the comfort of your home.

Where to Renew Online

Those wishing to renew their driving license can apply online through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ website, sarathi.parivahan.gov.in. To do this, you must upload your old driving license details, proof of identity and address, a scanned passport-size photo, and relevant documents. How to Apply Online

First, visit the website and select your state. Complete information regarding driving license services, required documents, and available forms will be displayed. Clicking on the “Continue” tab at the bottom of the page opens a new page, where you must enter your driving license number, date of birth, and captcha. You can then accept the terms of service and proceed. If the website requires any additional documents, they must be scanned and uploaded.

Following this process, the prescribed state fee must be paid online. Once the payment is successful, you can print the application form and reconfirm all your information. Upon completion of the application process, your new driving license will be sent to your address via post within a few days.
