Metro Fare Hike– Big news for daily metro commuters. Passengers traveling by Delhi Metro will now have to loosen their pockets a little more. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to increase the ticket fare from today i.e. 25th August. Now the fare will have to be paid more from Rs 1 to Rs 4 depending on the distance. At the same time, the maximum increase has been made by Rs 5 on the Airport Express Line.
This means that the passengers who travel long distances by metro every day will be affected the most. DMRC has given this information in a post on the social media platform ‘X’.DMRC says that this change is a “minimal increase” so that passengers are not burdened too much. This is the first fare hike in eight years. The last time the fare was revised was in 2017.
The new fare rates are as follows:
Normal Days Fare:
• 0–2 km: ₹10 → ₹11
• 2–5 km: ₹20 → ₹21
• 5–12 km: ₹30 → ₹31
• 12–21 km: ₹40 → ₹42
• 21–32 km: ₹50 → ₹54
• More than 32 km: ₹60 → ₹64
National Holiday & Sunday Fare:
• 0–2 km: ₹10 → ₹11
• 2–5 km: ₹10 → ₹11
• 5–12 km: ₹20 → ₹21
• 12–21 km: ₹30 → ₹32
• 21–32 km: ₹40 → ₹43
• More than 32 km: ₹50 → ₹52
Airport Express Line
The fare has been increased on this route too. Passengers will now have to pay Rs 1 to Rs 5 more depending on the distance. The new fare slab has now been implemented on the entire metro network, which is more than 390 km long and provides services at more than 285 stations in Delhi-NCR.
That is, if you travel by metro daily, then even if the fare increases by only Rs 1-2 on each trip, the impact on your pocket will be clearly visible on a monthly basis.
