ITR Refund Status : If you’ve filed this year’s Income Tax Return (ITR) and its status shows “Processed,” but your refund hasn’t yet been credited to your bank account, you’re not alone. Many taxpayers are complaining on social media that their returns have been processed but they haven’t received their refund. If this has happened to you, there’s no need to worry. With a few simple steps, you can check your refund status and get your money back within minutes.
Last chance to file ITR
The last date for filing ITR for assessment year 2025-26 (AY 2025-26) was September 16, 2025. This time, the government extended the deadline twice: first from July 31 to September 15 and then for 24 hours to September 16. Taxpayers in the non-audit category benefited from this, while the deadline for filing ITR for those with audit cases remains October 31, 2025
Why is the refund getting delayed?
It often happens that even though the ITR appears processed, the refund does not reach your account. There can be many reasons for this.
Sometimes the bank details or IFSC code are entered incorrectly, and sometimes the refund gets stuck due to errors in TDS or tax credit.
Refunds are often issued, but they can take 15 to 30 days to reach your bank. Therefore, be sure to match your bank details with the information provided in Form 26AS first.
What to do if ITR is processed but refund is not received?
- First of all login to the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Go to the Refund/Demand Status section.
- If it says that the refund has been processed but the money has not been credited to your account, check if your bank account and IFSC code are correct.
- If everything is correct and still the money has not arrived, then go to the portal and submit a ‘Refund Reissue Request’.
- After this the refund will be issued again.
- Contact your bank or NSDL
If the RFD code is displayed on the portal but the funds haven’t been credited to your account, you can contact NSDL or your bank branch. Sometimes, transactions are delayed due to technical reasons. Typically, the refund is credited to your account within 15 to 30 days of processing.
