Major news for lakhs of EPFO members. A portion of an employee’s salary is set aside as Provident Fund (PF), which is then deposited into their PF account. Upon retirement, this amount is received as a pension. Each month, 12% of the basic salary goes into the PF account, with the employer matching that contribution. The government also provides interest on these funds. Employees who contribute to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) are assigned a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), which allows them to access their PF account. Issues can arise when employees end up with multiple UANs instead of just one.

Keep this in mind when delinking your ID

If you find that an incorrect ID is linked to your UAN, you can easily delink it from home. The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) announced in a circular on January 17, 2025, that members can now remove any incorrect member ID associated with their UAN. To delink another member’s ID from your UAN, ensure that your mobile number linked to Aadhaar is active. Before starting the delinking process, double-check all the details you provide to avoid any errors. If needed, you can also reach out to EPF support for assistance.

How to delink someone else’s ID from your UAN:

First, visit https://unifiedportalmem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/.

Log in using your UAN, password, and captcha.

Next, navigate to the view menu option.

To check your service record, go to the sub-menu and click on Select Service History.

Look for the incorrect ID linked to your UAN.

Click the Delink button next to the relevant record.

When a confirmation alert appears, click OK to continue.

On the next page, select the reason for delinking.

Two consent boxes will pop up; clicking them will trigger an OTP to be sent to your mobile.

Enter the OTP and click Submit.

Once the OTP is verified, the ID will be delinked.

The delinked ID will no longer appear in your service history.
