The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made a major change to its online ticket booking system. If you frequently travel by train and book tickets through the IRCTC website or app, this news is very important for you. Now, you will not be able to book tickets in the morning without an Aadhaar-linked account.

What is IRCTC’s new rule?
According to this new rule, implemented last month, only passengers whose IRCTC account is verified with an Aadhaar card will be able to book tickets online between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Passengers whose accounts are not linked to Aadhaar will only be able to book tickets after 10:00 AM.
This time slot is considered the peak booking slot for the railways, when most people try to book Tatkal or confirmed tickets. Therefore, if your account is not verified, you may face difficulty getting a ticket.
Why was this change made?
According to the Railways, this move aims to prevent ticket fraud by fraudulent booking agents and automated bots. It has often been observed that some agents, using software, book large numbers of tickets, preventing ordinary passengers from getting confirmed tickets.
Now, only Aadhaar-verified users will be allowed to book tickets between 8 am and 10 am. This will increase transparency and make the ticket booking process more secure.
How to Link Aadhaar to Your IRCTC Account
- If your IRCTC account is not yet linked to Aadhaar, you can verify it through a few simple steps.
- First, visit the official IRCTC website, www.irctc.co.in, and log in to your account.
- Next, go to the ‘My Profile’ section and click on the ‘Authenticate Aadhaar’ option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID.
- You will then receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter it and click Submit.
- Upon completing these steps, your IRCTC account will be linked to Aadhaar.
Now you will be able to book train tickets without any interruption, whether it’s morning peak hours or any other time of the day.
