Hydrogen Cooking Stove: In light of the recent LPG cylinder shortages in India, the popularity of induction stoves has surged. People are exploring various types of cooking stoves. But have you heard about the innovative plug-and-play hydrogen cooking stoves? A company has launched a compact, plug-and-play hydrogen cooking stove suitable for both home and commercial kitchens. It produces its own fuel using water and electricity. This product is made by Greenvize, an Indian oil and natural gas firm. Let’s dive into the details.

No need for gas storage or pipelines

The Indian startup Greenvize has unveiled a hydrogen-powered cooktop. With the help of a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, users can create hydrogen from water simply by turning a knob, allowing them to use the stove immediately. There’s no need for gas storage or plumbing systems. It’s a fully self-sufficient cooking solution. An electrolyzer is a device that utilizes electricity to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Smoke does not come out

One of its standout features is that it utilizes hydrogen as a cooking fuel. Additionally, the system only emits water vapor instead of smoke. It also releases oxygen, which helps to purify and refresh the surrounding air.

The stove itself generates fuel from water and electricity

As reported by interesting engineering (REF.), Sanjeev Chaudhary, the director and co-founder of Greenvize, stated that the stove activates as soon as it is switched on. To generate hydrogen, the system needs about 100 ml of distilled or reverse osmosis (RO) water and roughly one kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity. This setup allows for around six hours of uninterrupted cooking. The unit can also be linked to rooftop solar panels.

Chaudhary explained that the system is designed so that the hydrogen-producing machine (electrolyzer) is directly connected to the stove. Hydrogen is produced immediately upon lighting the stove, without pre-storage. This means the fuel is produced instantly and used immediately, eliminating the hassle of storage.

How is this stove different from induction?

The company’s solution uses less electricity by converting electricity into hydrogen fuel.

The company says that although both the induction stove and the Greenvize hydrogen cooking system use electricity, there are significant differences in their efficiency, flexibility and real-world usability.

The company said that its hydrogen cooking stove is designed in line with India’s ‘National Green Hydrogen Mission’, which helps move towards a sustainable and energy secure future.

Know the Price

The single-burner hydrogen stove costs Rs 1,05,000 (1,128 USD).

The double-burner version costs around Rs 1,50,000 (1,610 USD).
