If you are going to another city and you want to shift the branch of your savings account to the same city. You will be surprised to know that many banks in the country like Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC, ICICI and State Bank of India (SBI) provide the facility of changing the branch online. However, you have to keep some important things in mind while doing this.

Can the branch be transferred online?

Yes, many banks allow online branch transfers. For this, you have to go to the branch and fill out the online form and submit it. However, after changing the branch, the IFSC code will also change. In such a situation, necessary changes will also have to be made in services like online banking, auto debit, and SIP.

What kind of accounts cannot be transferred?

If the KYC of the accounts,, i.e. Know Your Customer, is not complete, then the branch will not be transferred. Apart from this, frozen orinactivee accounts, i.e. accounts in which no transaction has been done for 2 years, then it cannot be transferred.

Some important documents will be needed to transfer the branch. For this, Aadhar card, PAN card, passport, driving license, address proof, account related information (passbook or statement), checkbook (if any) etc.

Will the locker facility be affected?

If you have taken the locker facility in the existing branch, then it will not be automatically transferred to the new branch. However, many times the old locker has to be closed and a new locker has to be taken in the new branch. In such a situation, one should first know whether the locker facility is available in the new branch or not.
