IRCTC Food Safety: Indian Railways QR Code Based Identification System for Food: Every day, a large number of people travel by train to reach their destinations. Trains offer amenities ranging from general to AC coaches. Besides toilet facilities, you also get comfortable seats on the train.
In addition to these, passengers also receive food on the train. However, passengers often complain about the food. These include issues like not getting the right food, or being served stale or stale food. But this won’t be the case anymore. IRCTC has now introduced a QR code feature that lets you know how old the food served to you is. Let’s find out how.
What is QR code scan feature?
Every food packet you get on the train will have a QR code on it. As soon as you scan this QR code on the packet, all the information about the food will appear on your mobile.
What information about the food packet will be available by scanning the QR code?
The QR code ensures that passengers have complete information about the food. By scanning the QR code, you can know when the food is cooked, when the food is packed, etc. According to a statement issued by IRCTC, it has been made mandatory for all authorised vendors, helpers and staff working on the train to carry ID cards with QR codes in their names. This will provide information about which wonder is not authorized and which is authorized. Food safety supervisors will also be deployed at the base kitchens to monitor and ensure the quality of food.
Advance Kitchen Preparation
IRCTC has also decided to start advanced kitchens. CCTV cameras will be installed in these kitchens. Apart from cooking, it can also keep an eye on other things. This move by the Railways is also being considered an important initiative towards the “Digital India” mission. Now, passengers will no longer have to argue or complain about the quality of the food. If the QR code scan reveals incorrect information or the food is found to be defective, passengers can immediately lodge a complaint through the Railways app or the “Rail Madad” portal. Importantly, the complaint will be accompanied by digital evidence, enabling swift and effective action.
This new facility will also strengthen passengers’ confidence in the railway’s catering system. This arrangement could prove to be a significant relief, especially for long-distance travelers. Now, they will no longer have to worry about the safety of the food they eat.
