GSTR-3B: The government has extended the last date for filing the monthly GSTR-3B tax payment form by five days to October 25. This was announced on Sunday. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBEC) said in a notification that GSTR-3B filers for the September and July-September quarters can pay the tax till October 25. The CBIC has informed about the extension of the last date for filing GSTR-3B by post on ‘X’.

The extension of the GSTR-3B filing deadline was already expected, as Diwali falls on October 20th. Taxpayers have been granted an additional five days to file their returns, making filing easier. It’s important to note that filing Form GSTR-3B is mandatory for all general and casual taxpayers, even if no business was transacted during that particular tax period.

What is GSTR-3B?

GSTR-3B is a monthly and quarterly summary return that is filed by various categories of registered taxpayers in a phased manner between the 20th, 22nd, and 24th of each month. This extension was expected because October 20th is the Diwali festival.

Recently, the Bombay Chartered Accountant Society (BCAS) wrote to the Finance Minister in this regard, urging him to immediately extend the statutory deadline for filing GSTR-3B returns and discharging tax liabilities for the month or quarter ending September 2025.
