New GST Rule

The government has pushed back the deadline for submitting GSTR-3B for March by one day. Taxpayers now have until April 21st to file their GST returns and settle their taxes. What prompted this decision from the government? It was made after taxpayers encountered technical issues while trying to file their returns on April 20th. As a result of these challenges, many were unable to submit their returns on time. A notification was released as well.

In a notification issued on Tuesday (GST Notification), the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs announced that the new deadline for GSTR-3B submissions for March has been extended to April 21st. So, what is GSTR-3B? GSTR-3B is a monthly summary return that registered taxpayers are required to file on the 20th, 22nd, and 24th of each month, depending on their category.

Rajat Mohan, Managing Partner of AMRG Global, mentioned that while the extension of the deadline is a welcome relief, it also underscores the necessity to enhance the GSTN system. He noted that despite the notification being applied retroactively, the absence of timely communication placed considerable last-minute stress on tax teams and professionals, compelling them to work late into the night.
