New Delhi: Ongoing tensions in West Asia have impacted the global oil trade, including in India. In response, the Indian government has increased crude oil supplies through various countries and alternative routes. Reassuring the public, the central government has confirmed that there is an ample supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG.
During an inter-ministerial briefing, various ministries shared information regarding the availability of essential commodities, energy security, and the safety of Indian seafarers. The government clarified that the country holds sufficient stocks of essential items and that supply chains are operating normally.

Stock of 197.56 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Fertiliser Available
Regarding the fertiliser sector, the government has made adequate preparations for the Kharif 2026 season. The estimated requirement for fertiliser during Kharif 2026 is approximately 383.9 lakh metric tonnes. Against this, a stock of 197.56 lakh metric tonnes is currently available.
The government stated that both domestic production and imports are proceeding normally, so farmers need not worry about fertiliser availability.
Adequate Stocks of Petrol, Diesel, and LPG Available in India
The Ministry of Petroleum also provided key information regarding the country’s energy security. According to the Ministry, India has sufficient stocks of petrol, diesel, and LPG, and supply operations remain completely normal. The government also noted that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are facing an under-recovery of approximately ₹700 per cylinder on domestic LPG cylinders.
Despite this, to provide relief to consumers, 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders are being made available at subsidised rates, even though the actual cost exceeds ₹1,600.
Relief to Continue for Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries
Furthermore, relief measures will continue for beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme. The government clarified that eligible families under the Ujjwala scheme will continue to receive a subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder for up to four cylinders. This is expected to provide relief to crores of families from the rising cost of domestic gas.
