Scheme Launch and Objectives
The Haryana government launched this scheme in 2015. It is operated through the Women and Child Development Department. The main objective of the scheme is to effectively curb female feticide, encourage daughters’ education, and improve the declining sex ratio in the state. The government believes that with financial support, families will accept daughters not as a burden, but as a responsibility.

Who is Eligible for the Scheme?
This scheme benefits the first daughter born in Scheduled Caste and BPL (Below Poverty Line) families. Additionally, families from any category are eligible for the scheme upon the birth of their second daughter. A sum of โน21,000 is invested by the government in LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India) in the name of the eligible girl child, ensuring a secure fund for her future.

When and How to Receive the Invested Amount
The โน21,000 invested in LIC can be withdrawn after the girl child turns 18 years old. This amount can be used for the daughter’s higher education, career, or other needs. The government’s objective is to empower daughters and ensure they are not faced with financial constraints in pursuing their goals.

Additional Financial Assistance for the Second Daughter
The government is also encouraging the birth of a second daughter. Upon the birth of a second daughter, the government provides assistance of โน5,000 annually for five years. This amount is primarily given for the education and care of the girls, so that parents do not have to worry about educational expenses.

Documents Required for the Scheme
To avail of the scheme, the child’s birth certificate, family’s residence certificate, immunization card, BPL ration card, income certificate, caste certificate, and parents’ Aadhaar numbers are required. All documents must be correct and up-to-date.

Online Application Process
To apply, visit the official website of the Women and Child Development Department, Haryana: wcdhry.gov.in. On the website, go to the section for schemes related to children and download the ‘Aapki Beti Hamari Beti Yojana’ form. After completely filling out the form, submit it along with the required documents to the nearest Anganwadi center.

Social Recognition Initiative for the Birth of a Girl Child

The Haryana government has recently launched a unique initiative under this scheme. Upon the birth of a girl child, members of the transgender community present the family with an LIC investment certificate. In return for this service, the government provides the transgender community members with a token amount of โน1,100. The aim is to promote the tradition of celebrating the birth of a girl child.
