The free luggage limit set by the railways depends on the type of coach. Passengers are allowed to carry luggage up to the following weight without any additional charges:
In AC coaches:
AC First Class: 70 kg
AC 2-tier: 50 kg
AC 3-Tier / AC Chair Car: 40 kg
Sleeper class: 40 kg
Second sitting (general class): 35 kg
If passengers carry luggage beyond the prescribed free limit, they have to pay an additional fee, which is 1.5 times the normal luggage rate.

The maximum size of trunk or suitcase carried in AC 3-tier and AC chair car should be 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm.
