EPFO Pension Updates: Ahead of Budget 2025, a delegation of EPS-95 retired employees met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and reiterated the demand to increase the minimum pension to ₹ 7,500 per month as well as add dearness allowance (DA).

An important meeting of the EPFO is going to be held today, and there are reports that a decision can be taken in this meeting to cut the deposit interest rate, which can be a big blow to crores of people working in the private sector. But the hopes of pensioners are still intact.

Pensioners eye ₹ 7,500 minimum pension

In September 2014, the Center fixed the minimum pension amount at ₹ 1000 under the Employees’ Pension Scheme EPS, run by the EPFO. Under EPF, employees deposit 12% of their basic salary in the provident fund, while employers also contribute the same amount, and out of this contribution made by the employer, 8.33 percent goes to EPS, and 3.67 percent is deposited in the account. Pensioners demand that this amount be quite less according to the current inflation.

Pensioners’ hopes remain intact

Pensioners’ organization EPS-95 Movement Committee has said that Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has assured timely action on their demands including minimum pension under EPS-95. A statement issued by the pensioners organization EPFO said that the central government has taken a positive stand on the long-pending demands of more than 78 lakh pensioners coming under EPFO across the country.
