Bank Holiday– Will there be a holiday in Maharashtra on Monday 8 September due to Eid-e-Milad? Actually, the Maharashtra government has made a big change regarding the holiday of Eid-e-Milad. Earlier this holiday was announced on Friday 5 September 2025 but this holiday will be celebrated on Monday 8 September in Mumbai city and its suburbs. In this regard, the General Administration Department of the state had issued an official notification on Wednesday this week.
This change was made because the Muslim community has decided that the procession of Eid-e-Milad will be taken out on September 8. The government said that this step was taken to maintain peace on the day of Anand Chaturdashi. Actually, Ganpati immersion was to be done on September 6.
In such a situation, due to both the events happening together, there could have been problems regarding crowd and management. This was the reason why the date of holiday was changed for Mumbai and its suburbs. However, in the rest of the districts of the state, the holiday was kept on September 5 as before. This change was made only in Maharashtra.
According to the list of gazetted holidays, Eid-e-Milad was celebrated on September 5 this year. Therefore, government offices and schools across the country remained closed on September 5. But in Mumbai and its suburbs, offices remained open as usual on September 5. Globally, this festival will be celebrated from the evening of September 4 to the evening of September 5.
Eid-e-Milad, also known as Milad-un-Nabi, is a special occasion for the Muslim community. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad and is celebrated on a large scale especially by the Sufi and Barelvi communities.
