Delhi Dehradun Expressway: A significant update has been made regarding the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The long-awaited moment has finally come. Residents of Delhi and the NCR have been curious about the inauguration date, the reasons for the delays, and more. Now, all these inquiries will be addressed. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has started preparations for the expressway.
According to reports, the construction of the expressway is finished. It is anticipated that the Prime Minister will inaugurate it. Sources indicate that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been contacted for scheduling, and the inauguration will occur as soon as a time slot is available.
As per the Ministry of Road Transport, the 212-kilometer Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access Controlled Expressway starts at Akshardham in Delhi and passes through Khekra, Shamli, Saharanpur, concluding at Dehradun. The foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister in 2021, and now, with its completion, it will be opened to the public.
Which areas of Delhi will benefit?
Once this service is launched, commuters from Geeta Colony, Wazirabad, Sonia Vihar, Yamuna Vihar, Shastri Park, Mustafabad, Karawal Nagar, and those heading to Loni in Ghaziabad, Shamli, and Baghpat will experience relief. Currently, these commuters must navigate through Pushta Road or Seelampur, often facing traffic congestion.
Once this highway is operational, drivers will only require 15 minutes to reach the border. From Nizamuddin, they will travel to Akshardham via the Delhi Meerut Expressway. After that, they can conveniently access the border and nearby areas through the Delhi Dehradun Access Controlled Expressway.
Those outside Delhi also benefit
The 212-km Delhi-Dehradun greenfield corridor will benefit commuters from Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan to Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh, reducing their travel time. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is also being linked to the DND. Once operational, this will make commuting easier for many states, including Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
