Delhi Airspace Closed: If you’re flying through Delhi Airport from January 21st to 26th, pay attention to this info. For those six days, Delhi’s airspace will be shut down for a few hours each day. This is due to the Republic Day parade, rehearsals, the Air Force flypast, and security for VVIPs. The government has put out a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) about it.
No flights will be able to take off or land in Delhi during the specified hours on those days. This will affect hundreds of flights directly. Flight operations are already facing challenges because of fog. This temporary closure could make things even tougher for travelers. If you have tickets for those dates, it’s super important to check your flight status and stay updated.

How long will the airspace be closed?
As per a government notice, air traffic over Delhi will be completely halted from 10:20 am to 12:45 pm every day from January 21st to January 26th. No flights will be able to take off or land during this period. This decision is made considering the Republic Day parade rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and the Air Force flypast during the main event on January 26th.
Moreover, VVIP movement and high-level security are also key factors. Delhi Airport is the busiest in the country, handling thousands to millions of passengers on domestic and international flights every day. So, this two-and-a-half-hour daily shutdown could throw a wrench in the entire schedule.

What should you do?
This government decision might lead to many flights being rescheduled. Some could even be cancelled or changed. This could create more hassle for passengers with connecting flights. Plus, the foggy weather is already causing delays. According to aviation company Cirium, over 600 flights could be impacted during these six days.
Therefore, it is crucial for travelers to check their flight status before leaving the airport. Constantly monitor messages, emails, and calls from the airline. Arrive at the airport earlier than normal, and allow extra time if you have a connecting flight to avoid problems later.
