DA Hike: Central government employees are still waiting for their DA. As April 2026 comes to a close, there has been no word from the government. This has caused significant anxiety among the workforce. Since the Finance Ministry put into effect the 7th Central Pay Commission’s recommendations in June 2016, such a delay in announcing a DA increase has never happened before. This is the first instance of such a hold-up, making it understandable for employees to feel concerned.
Is this delay related to the 8th Pay Commission? There is currently a buzz among employees who are anticipating their dearness allowance (DA). The postponement of the announcement has sparked speculation that it might be delayed due to the upcoming 8th Pay Commission meeting.
The drafting committee of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) is set to convene on April 13, 2026. During this meeting, they will discuss the final proposal to be submitted to the 8th Pay Commission. Consequently, there is widespread speculation that the Commission is waiting for this meeting before announcing any pay increases.
When were the last announcements made?
Based on records from the Finance Ministry, the government suggested a DA increase for 2025 on March 28, 2025, with the official announcement following on April 2. Likewise, the government made the official announcement for a DA increase for 2024 on April 3. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government also froze the DA at 17% from October 14, 2019, to July 20, 2021, with an order issued on April 23, 2020.
Meanwhile Amid the 8th Pay Commission, there’s good news for central government employees regarding children’s education allowance (CEA). The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, recently clarified the reimbursement rules (CEA Reimbursement Rules) through frequently asked questions (FAQs). Now, employees won’t have to scramble to get their allowance.
How much money will you get?
According to the new rules, government employees are entitled to a fixed children’s education allowance of Rs 2,812.5 per month. If the child is studying in a hostel, they will receive a hostel subsidy of Rs 8,437.5 per month.
The important thing is that regardless of whether the expenses increase or decrease, the employee will receive this fixed amount. Furthermore, whenever the dearness allowance (DA) increases by 50%, this allowance will also automatically increase by 25%.
