CGHS: The government has issued a new clarification on OPD consultation charges for Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) benefits. This clarification is for CGHS beneficiaries. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been receiving frequent questions about when and in what cases the OPD fees of Rs 700 and Rs 350 will be applicable. This confusion was exacerbated by the significant changes made to CGHS rates last year.
What does the new CGHS clarification say?
According to Jansatta’s associate Financial Express, the Health Ministry, after consultation with the Directorate General of CGHS, has clarified that the OPD consultation fee of Rs 700 will be valid only in cases where the patient is seen by a super specialist (DM/MCh) doctor. The doctor should have a recognized DM or MCh qualification and the consultation should be given in the relevant super-speciality discipline.
This facility will be applicable only in CGHS-empanelled hospitals
OPD consultation fee is generally Rs 350 applicable for OPD services of specialist doctors who do not have super-specialist qualification (DM/MCh). CGHS has clarified that a maximum of two consultations per specialist per day will be allowed for in-patient department (IPD) cases. This rule is already in effect under existing CGHS regulations and has not been changed. From domestic to international flights! What changed in the CGHS rate revision?
According to Jansatta’s affiliate, Financial Express, the CGHS had made changes to its rate list last year, which included linking OPD consultation fees to the doctor’s qualification and specialization, setting higher limits for super-specialist services, and directing empanelled hospitals to follow a clear billing structure.
However, after the new rate structure, many hospitals were unclear about whether a fee of Rs 700 per OPD visit could be charged. The clarification issued now makes it clear that the Rs 700 fee will not apply to all cases, but only to DM/MCh super-specialist consultations.
What should a CGHS beneficiary keep in mind?
– Check the doctor’s qualifications before your OPD visit.
– Verify whether the hospital is CGHS-empanelled.
– Ensure that the consultation category (specialist or super specialist) is clearly stated on the billing receipt.
The new clarification is being considered a major step towards increasing transparency and preventing incorrect billing for both CGHS beneficiaries and hospitals.
Which cities will get CGHS rates like Delhi?
The central government recently revised Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rates. Following these changes, a necessary clarification regarding the new rates has been issued. On December 16, the Ministry of Defense issued an addendum clarifying how city-class and tier mapping will work for applying the new CGHS rates to ECHS-empanelled hospitals. Here’s a simple breakdown of what has changed and what hasn’t.
