Budget 2026: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman began her ninth budget presentation with greetings on the auspicious occasion of Sant Ravidas Jayanti. During her speech, she made several major announcements.
Nirmala Sitharaman announced improvements to several schemes and projects and unveiled a new scheme for the citizens of the country. In her budget speech in the Lok Sabha, she announced the launch of the Mahatma Gandhi Gram Swaraj Yojana.

This scheme will benefit people across the country. She emphasised the importance of achieving a self-reliant India and also focused on providing employment opportunities for the youth and strengthening infrastructure.
Major Announcement for this Sector
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the budget on Sunday, made a major announcement for the bio-pharma sector. The Finance Minister said, “To develop India as a global bio-pharma manufacturing hub, I propose the ‘Bio Pharma Shakti’ scheme. A provision of ₹10,000 crore will be made for this over the next five years. This will create a robust ecosystem for the domestic production of biologics and biosimilars.”

Presenting the Union Budget 2026-27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “We will launch the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0. This will focus on industry-led research and training centres to create a technology-driven and skilled workforce.”
Speaking about the global situation, the Finance Minister said, “Today, we are facing an external environment where trade and multilateralism are under pressure, and access to resources and supply chains are disrupted. New technologies are transforming production systems, while the demand for water, energy, and critical minerals is rapidly increasing.
