Budget 2026: Farmers across the country have high hopes for the Union Budget, to be presented on February 1, 2026. Amid rising farming costs and inflation, farmers want the government to increase the annual assistance provided under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Currently, farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually under this scheme, but this amount now seems insufficient to them. Therefore, the biggest expectation from Budget 2026 is that the government announce an increase in this amount to Rs 10,000.

There have been discussions about increasing the PM Kisan Yojana in the past, but expectations are higher this time around. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched in December 2018. Its purpose is to provide direct financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Under this scheme, farmers are given Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments, which are transferred directly to their bank accounts.

Why is it important to increase the amount?

Farmers say that the cost of farming has increased significantly over the past few years. The prices of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, diesel, and agricultural equipment have steadily risen. Therefore, the current assistance of Rs. 6,000 falls far short of the required expenses. If the government increases this amount, it could help farmers invest in farming and improve production.

Rural economy will also get support

If Budget 2026 decides to increase the PM Kisan Yojana, its impact will not be limited to farmers alone. It will also increase spending power in rural areas, benefiting local markets and the entire rural economy.

All eyes are now on February 1

Farmers have been demanding an increase in this scheme from the government for a long time. Now it remains to be seen how much priority Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gives to this expectation in Budget 2026. Whether the budget, scheduled for February 1st, will bring relief to farmers or not, will be known in a few days.
