Monsoon Update – Western Disturbance Active, Thunderstorm and Rain Warning in 12 States”

New Delhi: The impact of a new Western Disturbance has once again begun to be felt across the northern parts of the country. Consequently, a phase of increased cloud movement is being observed. From Rajasthan to Punjab, as well as in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the weather is beginning to undergo a shift. These regions may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by dust storms. Light showers, accompanied by thunder and lightning, are also possible.

Furthermore, there is a strong possibility of lightning strikes. A robust Western Disturbance is already active over the mountainous regions, resulting in continued rainfall and snowfall across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. This is expected to lead to a decline in both minimum and maximum temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the likelihood of rainfall across various parts of the country.

Rain Expected in Bihar

According to the Meteorological Department, weather conditions in Bihar are likely to deteriorate once again. Clouds currently blanket several districts. Rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, is expected. An alert has been issued for 12 districts in Bihar, warning of thunderstorms, rain, and lightning strikes.

A ‘Yellow Alert’ for rainfall—accompanied by thunder and lightning—has been issued for two days in the districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Saran, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, and Sheohar. Additionally, rainfall is likely in several other districts, including Gaya, Patna, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, and Purnia.

Weather to Deteriorate in Rajasthan as Well

The impact of the active Western Disturbance is evident across several parts of the state. According to the IMD, there is a forecast for thunderstorms and rain over the next 24 hours in various locations, including the Bikaner division. Starting March 28, winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are anticipated in several districts across the Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, and Shekhawati divisions. Additionally, these weather activities are expected to continue intermittently until March 30. Within the state, minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 16°C in Anta, while maximum temperatures are expected to remain around 38°C in Barmer.

Weather in Delhi-NCR

In Delhi-NCR as well, the movement of clouds continues due to the active influence of a Western Disturbance. There is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next 24 hours. Consequently, a decline in both minimum and maximum temperatures may be observed. Air quality is expected to improve as winds blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, accompanied by showers.

Light Rain Forecast for UP

The Meteorological Department indicates that the weather pattern is likely to change once again over the coming 24 hours. The impact of a new Western Disturbance is expected to be felt across both Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This will trigger weather-related activities, and the weather is likely to shift in several districts due to storms and rainfall.

Light rainfall is forecast for Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Aligarh, Etah, Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, and Meerut on March 27, 28, and 29. Furthermore, an alert has been issued for Bagpat, Hapur, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Moradabad, Rampur, Bijnor, Sambhal, Bareilly, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, and Pilibhit, warning of winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

Rainfall in These States

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall across Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Bihar, and Jharkhand, as well as certain parts of Madhya Pradesh. Given the risk of lightning strikes, the public is urged to exercise caution.
