Indian Railways has made a big and important change in the rules for making reservation charts. Earlier, this chart was prepared 4 hours before the train left, but now this time has been increased to 8 hours. This means, if your train is at 5 am, then its chart will now be ready at 9 pm. This new rule has been implemented across the country from 10 July 2025.

According to the Railways, this change has been made keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, so that people can plan their journey in time and also know the status of waiting tickets soon. This is a great relief for millions of passengers who travel by train every day.

Now the status of the ticket will be known 8 hours in advance

Under this new rule, the chart of trains running till 2 pm will be ready at 9 pm on the previous day. After this, the chart of trains running from 2 pm to 12 pm will be prepared exactly 8 hours before their scheduled departure time. This change will especially benefit those passengers who plan to travel by taking waiting tickets or come to the station from far-flung areas. Earlier, due to a delay in chart preparation, passengers had to wait till the last moment for ticket confirmation, but now they will know the status several hours in advance. This will reduce uncertainty and make the journey more comfortable.

Booking will be 5 times faster

However, the second chart will still be prepared 30 minutes before the train leaves. It will include only the names of those passengers whose booking was confirmed at the last moment or whose new reservations were made after the ticket was cancelled.

Indian Railways

Railways has also informed that the PRS system, i.e., Passenger Reservation System, is also being improved, so that booking of about 1.5 lakh tickets can be handled in a minute. This will be about five times the current capacity. This change will provide passengers with an even faster and seamless booking experience, especially during peak hours.

Railways’ big step for train passengers

Overall, this move by the Railways is a big relief for the passengers. Now, with the chart of any train being prepared in advance, confirmation, seat planning, and travel preparation will become very easy. This change will prove to be very helpful, especially for trains running early in the morning, where passengers often need to know the status at night. Railways are constantly striving to improve the passenger experience, and this new rule is an important step in that direction.
