Pankaj Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Finance, stated in a written response to Parliament on Monday, December 15, that raising the pension would also necessitate an increase in the subscription amount, which would impose an extra financial burden on subscribers. As a result, it has been decided to maintain the scheme under its existing terms and conditions.

As per government statistics, a total of 84,517,419 individuals had signed up for the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) by November 30, 2025. This figure equates to around 84 million people, showcasing the scheme’s extensive reach and the trust it has garnered from the public.

According to the data, the Rs 1,000 pension slab has the highest number of subscribers at 86.91 percent, numbering over 73.4 million. The Rs 2,000 pension slab has 3 percent, Rs 3,000 has 1.41 percent, and Rs 4,000 has 0.53 percent. The highest pension slab of Rs 5,000 has 8.15 percent, or approximately 6.87 million subscribers.

Enrollment increased every year

While approximately 2.48 million people joined in the fiscal year 2015–16, this number will exceed 76 million by the end of 2024–25.
