UIDAI has made it very easy to update Aadhaar and make the process of new enrolment easy. Earlier, there were many problems to get or update Aadhaar. The new rules will reduce this hassle significantly. In the new list, UIDAI has clarified the valid documents for PoI (Proof of Identity), PoA (Proof of Address), DoB (Proof of Date of Birth) and PoR (Proof of Relationship).
Name Change in Aadhaar
UIDAI officially accepts several documents for name change. The most reliable document is the passport. It has a photograph, name, date of birth and address.

PAN card is also valid for name verification as it clearly shows the name. A voter ID (EPIC card) has both the name and photograph, so it can also be used for name change.
Additionally, driving license, government ID card and marriage certificate are also acceptable.

Change of address in Aadhaar
The list of documents required to update address in Aadhaar is long. Passport, bank passbook, or bank statement is valid, if the passbook is updated. Electricity bills, water bills and gas bills are also acceptable, but they should not be more than three months old.
For tenants, the most important documents are the rental agreement, police verification or notarization. In addition, a voter ID card (updated EPIC), ration card and house tax or property tax receipt are also valid for address update.

Update the date of birth (DOB) in Aadhaar
Valid documents for updating date of birth include birth certificate, passport and marksheet of class 10-12. A PAN card is also valid, but only a physical PAN. E-PAN is not acceptable. A government ID is also valid if the date of birth is clearly written on it.
Updating Aadhaar is now easier
As per the new UIDAI rules, if a person has a document containing his/her photo, name and address, it will be considered as both PoI and PoA. Earlier, two different documents had to be submitted, now only one is enough.

Whether it is changing the name, updating the address, correcting the date of birth or adding relatives, it is now possible to update easily by showing the correct document.
What should be kept in mind while updating Aadhaar?
UIDAI has clearly stated that the documents submitted for update must be original and no cutting, editing or alteration can be done. If any document is found to be forged, UIDAI can reject it.

Also, there is a limit on changing some information in Aadhaar. Name can be changed twice. However, date of birth and gender are allowed only once.
How to update Aadhaar?
- Keep the correct documents like passport, domicile certificate, birth certificate, etc. ready.
- Visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment/update centre or go through the online process on the myAadhaar portal.
- After the update is complete, double check the Aadhaar details to ensure that all the information is correct.
- Once updated, the Aadhaar will be sent to your address within the stipulated time.
