Aadhaar New Rules 2025: UIDAI Updates Document List for Enrolment and Update — Check Full Details

Aadhaar Card Rules– The process for getting an Aadhaar card and updating details like name, address, and date of birth has been revamped. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced these updates through the Aadhaar (Nomination and Update) Third Amendment Regulations, 2025.

The goal of these changes is to streamline and enhance the reliability of submitting documents that serve as proof of identity, address, relationship, and date of birth. UIDAI has broadened the types of documents accepted to include various government certificates, digital IDs, and official records. This updated document list will be applicable to everyone, from kids to adults and seniors.

For adults (18+ years)

The new list outlines four key categories for adults: Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), Proof of Date of Birth (PoB), and Proof of Relationship (PoR).

UIDAI has also provided clarity on the document requirements for children under 5 and those between 5 and 18 years old. For kids under 5, birth certificates and documents based on the Head of Family (HoF) will still be the main proof. For children and teens aged 5 to 18, any valid PoI or PoA document can be submitted. Plus, a birth certificate or a school-issued document showing the date of birth is acceptable as PoB.

Updates on Aadhaar correction rules

The list of documents accepted for correcting details in Aadhaar has been revised. This now includes more records like marriage certificates, divorce decrees, gazette notifications for name changes, bank statements, and self-declarations from immediate family members for address changes, as well as documents for including prisoners. UIDAI mentioned that some certificates issued by public representatives or shelter home authorities might need extra verification.

The revised rules also specify that Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders, long-term visa holders and citizens of Nepal/Bhutan who have stayed in India for at least 182 days in the last 12 months will have to follow a separate list of documents.
