Nowadays, the most important document for identity and address is Aadhaar card. It can be easily downloaded and kept and one can go anywhere with the digital Aadhaar card. Aadhaar card contains both biometric and demographic information of the user. So that it becomes the most effective identity card. If a woman wants to add her husband’s surname to her name legally, then it has to be updated in the document. The matter of updating the name in Aadhaar card is not at all easy. Following are some easy ways to change your name in Aadhaar card after marriage.

Ways to update name After Marriage:

1. Go to the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center.
2. Provide Aadhaar number to the executive.
3. Fill in the Aadhaar Card Correction/Update Form and submit it to the executive along with the necessary documents.
4. Now the executive can ask for the customer’s biometric data for authentication.
5. The supporting documents will be scanned and the original documents will be returned to the customer.
6. Once the correction/update process is completed, the executive will give the customer an acknowledgement slip. It will contain the acknowledgement number. The status of Aadhaar update can be checked through this number.
7. Finally, a fee of Rs. 50 (including tax) will be paid.

What documents will be required for Aadhaar update?

Women who change their name in Aadhaar card after marriage have to submit some documents to the Aadhaar Enrollment Center. The applicant has to submit a marriage certificate. It is important to keep the original certificate with you. The executive will scan the original and return it. However, if you submit only a photocopy, it may not be approved.

2. Legally approved name change certificate.

3. Identity certificate with photograph of the applicant on a suitable letterhead issued by a Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar.
