8th Pay Commission: The upcoming days are deemed vital for central government employees and pensioners. Millions of railway and defense workers, who have been eagerly anticipating salary hikes, fitment factors, and pension adjustments, are now placing their hopes on the 8th Pay Commission meetings. During these sessions, scheduled to take place in New Delhi next week, employee organizations will directly present their requests to the commission. It is expected that these discussions will shape the future of employees’ salaries and pensions.

The 8th Pay Commission has revealed that meetings will occur with employee and pensioner organizations linked to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi on May 13 and 14, 2026. Various unions and associations will voice their demands concerning salaries, allowances, and working conditions at these gatherings.

The Commission has indicated that organizations wishing to take part in these meetings must submit their applications online by May 10, 2026. During the application process, it is essential to provide the Memo ID received after submitting the memorandum. The Commission has made it clear that only online applications will be accepted. Memoranda sent via email, hard copy, or PDF format will not be taken into account.

Typically, employee union memorandums encompass demands related to basic salary, fitment factor, DA, HRA, pension, and promotions. The Commission will base its recommendations on these proposals and requests. This is why millions of employees are attentively observing these meetings.

In addition to Delhi, the Commission plans to hold meetings in other regions of the country. The 8th Pay Commission will be in Hyderabad on May 18th and 19th. After that, meetings are scheduled in Jammu and Kashmir and Srinagar from June 1st to 4th. On June 8th, the Commission will travel to Ladakh. The aim of these meetings is to gather insights into the issues and suggestions of employees and pensioners from various areas.

IRTSA, the organization representing railway technical employees, has placed several major demands before the Commission. The organization has demanded a minimum basic salary of Rs 52,600, the implementation of different fitment factors for employees at different levels, and a 5% increment per year. Furthermore, it has also demanded an increase equal to two increments upon promotion.

Railway employee organizations have also made a significant suggestion regarding dearness allowance (DA). They say that employees’ expenses are no longer the same, so expenses like internet, health insurance, and drinks should also be included in the DA calculation. Now it remains to be seen how much the Commission considers these demands and how much relief employees receive in the future.
