8th Pay Commission: Big news for central government employees. Central government employees’ salaries could see a significant increase. The demand for a 3.833 fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission has sparked a stir. The staff side of the National Council (NC-JCM) sent a 51-page memorandum to the government, clearly stating that a salary increase in line with inflation is essential.
The biggest focus is on the fitment factor
The biggest focus is on the fitment factor. In the 7th Pay Commission, it was 2.57, but now there are calls to increase it to 3.833. This will have a direct impact on salaries. For example, the minimum basic salary for Level 1 could increase from Rs 18,000 to approximately Rs 69,000.
Now let’s understand how much the increase in the fitment factor will result in salary increases for employees from Level 1 to 18. Let’s understand the full calculation.
What is fitment factor?
Dr. Manjeet Patel, National President of the All India NPS Employees Federation, explained that the fitment factor is a multiplier used to multiply the current basic salary to determine the new basic salary. The higher the fitment factor, the higher the salary and pension.
What will the salary increase be?
The current minimum salary for central government employees stands at Rs 18,000. By applying the fitment formula of 3.83, the new basic salary amounts to Rs 68,940. This indicates that employees’ basic salaries could see an increase of around 283 percent. For Level-5 employees, salaries may rise from Rs 29,200 to about Rs 1.11 lakh. Among mid-level officers, the basic salary for Level-10 employees is expected to grow from Rs 56,100 to roughly Rs 2.14 lakh.
Level-1: Rs 18,000 to Rs 68,940
Level-2: Rs 19,900 to Rs 76,217
Level-3: Rs 21,700 to Rs 83,111
Level-4: Rs 25,500 to Rs 97,665
Level-5: Rs 29,200 to Rs 1,11,836
Mid-Level Employees
Level-6: Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,35,582
Level-7: Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,71,967
Level-8: Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,82,308
Level-9: Rs 53,100 to Rs 2,03,373
Level-10: Rs 56,100 to Rs 2,14,863
Level-11: Rs 67,700 to Rs 2,59,391
Level-12: Rs 78,800 to Rs 3,01,804
Senior officials and bureaucrats are also likely to experience considerable advantages. The basic salary for top Level 18 officials could rise from Rs 2.5 lakh to around Rs 9.57 lakh. However, these numbers are merely projections based on a fitment factor of 3.83. The ultimate decision will rely on the recommendations from the government and the Pay Commission.
According to the new formula, the salaries for senior officers at Level 13 and 14 could fall between Rs 471,473 and Rs 552,286, respectively. Additionally, under the new formula, salaries for employees at Levels 15, 16, 17, and 18 might range from approximately Rs 700,000 to Rs 957,000.
