Bank Holiday: If you’re considering a trip to a bank branch today, August 15th, make sure to verify whether the banks in your area are open or closed before heading out. August sees various state-specific holidays, but the circumstances may differ for Independence Day.

As per the RBI’s bank holiday calendar, banking operations might be impacted on August 15th. However, this effect varies across states and services. Let’s check if the holiday applies in your city and whether online banking and ATM services are functioning or not…

Are the banks open or closed today?

On August 15, 2026, banks throughout India will be closed in observance of Independence Day. Consequently, you won’t have access to cash deposits, check deposits, or other services at the bank counter. If you have an urgent need, you may need to wait until the next business day.

These banking services will still be accessible

Despite the closure of bank branches, digital banking services will still be available to customers. You can transfer money using internet banking and UPI.

There will be no school holiday on August 15 in Ghaziabad

In Ghaziabad, instead of keeping schools closed on August 15th, instructions have been issued to organize Independence Day celebrations. Students and teachers must attend school. However, normal classes will not be held on this day. Flag hoisting, the national anthem, Vande Mataram, and patriotic programs will be organized in schools. Therefore, parents and students in Ghaziabad should not consider August 15th a holiday based on the general perception that schools will be closed. They must follow the schedule issued by the respective school and the instructions of the local administration.

Will schools remain open across UP?

It’s important to note that the Ghaziabad order doesn’t automatically apply to all districts across Uttar Pradesh. In different districts, the District Magistrate, Education Department, or the relevant administration may issue different instructions regarding Independence Day. Therefore, parents living in other districts of Uttar Pradesh should check the orders issued by their district’s school or administration.

Banks and government offices will remain closed on August 15

As Independence Day is a national holiday, government offices and banks will be closed. If you have any urgent banking work, it’s best to complete it before August 15th. However, despite the bank holiday, digital services like ATMs, UPI, mobile banking, and internet banking will remain available as usual. This allows for money transfers, online payments, and many other banking tasks to be performed from home.
