Tesla Model Y: Tesla launches its first showroom in India today. Elon Musk has opened the brand’s first-ever Tesla Experience Centre in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai. As the world’s most renowned electric vehicle brand, Tesla has finally entered the Indian market. The company is also establishing infrastructure and service support close by, merely 6 km from the primary showroom, where there is a separate service and warehouse centre prepared.
What’s in the Showroom?
Tesla has exported equipment and electric vehicles with a value of more than $1 million to India in the recent past. They are comprised of EVs, charging equipment, and accessories. Of these, six units of the Tesla Model Y SUV have been imported for demonstration. The car is expected to be the centerpiece of the showroom and command the lion’s share of the attention of visitors and potential customers.
Tesla Model Y Range and Performance
Tesla Model Y is the company’s first electric SUV making its Indian entrance. It’s a mid-size SUV available in two trim levels, Long Range RWD and Long Range AWD. Both trim levels boast robust performance and seamless handling. With a full charge, the Model Y goes as far as 574 km. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in merely 4.6 seconds, and it’s one of the quickest EVs in its segment.
Availability and Expected Price
Even though Tesla hasn’t announced prices as yet, import duties in India may make the Model Y’s price fall in the range of ₹46 lakh to ₹56 lakh. This comprises almost 70% import duty on completely built imported cars. Official bookings and test drives have not begun yet, but since the showroom is now operational, further information will soon be shared.
Job Opportunities at Tesla India
Tesla has recruited more than 30 employees for the Mumbai store, including service engineers, sales executives, and store managers. The firm is also looking to recruit supply chain engineers and vehicle operators. These professionals will assist Tesla’s Autopilot technology by assisting in data gathering and real-world testing.
