Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung has once again created a stir in the world of foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold7, launched in India on 9 July 2025, is considered to be the most refined and mature foldable device till date. It is getting a lot of praise in the reviews coming from India, but there are also some shortcomings which draw attention.

So let’s take a look at how special the Galaxy Z Fold7 is, and in which cases it has lagged behind.

Design and Build Thin, light

The biggest feature of the Galaxy Z Fold7 is its new design language. This phone has now become thinner and lighter than before. Compared to Fold6, its folded thickness is now only 8.9mm (earlier it was 12.1mm), and the weight has come down to just 215 grams. That is, when kept in the pocket, it now feels like a normal flagship phone – neither bulky, nor awkward.

Its premium feel will impress you as soon as you hold it in your hand. The use of Armor Aluminum frame and new generation of Gorilla Glass makes it even tougher. The hinge system is also new, which closes the phone without a gap, which makes its overall look more smooth.

Display Now even bigger and brighter

Samsung has improved both the screens this time. The outer cover display is now 6.5-inches, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. This means that now you can comfortably type, Instagram or WhatsApp without opening the phone.

The main foldable screen inside is now even bigger – the massive 8-inch screen gives you a next-level experience for multitasking, Netflix binge, or gaming.

Talking about brightness, both displays have a peak brightness of around 3,000 nits. That is, it has become easier to read and view content even in sunlight outside.

An attempt has also been made to reduce the visibility of the crease, although it has not completely disappeared, but it looks much subtler than before.

Camera 200MP! But a little mix feeling

The most talked about upgrade of Galaxy Z Fold7 is its new 200MP main camera sensor, which is the same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This sensor now brings flagship-level clarity and low-light performance to the foldable phone as well. Photos are now ultra-detailed, crisp and sharp, and the dynamic range is also amazing.

But the rest of the camera sensors – like 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto (3x zoom) – are the same as the old Fold6. No major megapixel or zoom improvement has been made. If you are a Galaxy S25 Ultra user, then you may miss the 5x optical zoom.

Another thing that has changed is the inner screen selfie camera – earlier it had an under-display camera, now it has been removed and a punch-hole style camera has been given. This will improve the image quality, but the seamless fullscreen look is now slightly compromised.

Performance custom-tuned chipset

The Galaxy Z Fold7 now runs Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which has been specifically tuned for Samsung Galaxy devices. Performance has been reported to be improved by about 38% and AI processing has also become 41% faster now.

For benchmark lovers, talking about AnTuTu score, it is going up to about 1.9 million – that is, you can run any game, app or multitasking very smoothly in it.

Galaxy AI features have also been optimized for the foldable experience this time. Tools like AI Object Eraser, Photo Assist, and Google Gemini take productivity to the next level.

Battery and Charging

The battery in Galaxy Z Fold7 is still 4,400mAh – meaning size reduced, weight reduced, but battery capacity remained the same. Although software optimizations have improved the battery life a bit, some heavy users may need a quick charge due to the large display and powerful chipset.

There is no improvement in charging speed either – still 25W wired and 15W wireless charging is available. Which seems a bit backward considering the fast-charging trends of today.

S Pen Gone The biggest disappointment

Now let’s talk about the most disappointing change – this time S Pen support has been removed in Fold7. Samsung removed the digitizer layer to make the phone thinner, so now you can not use S Pen on the main foldable display.

This is a big compromise for many Fold lovers and professionals who used S Pen for drawing, notes or productivity apps.

Price expensive Foldable till date

If you are planning to buy it, then keep a little bigger budget. The price of the 256GB variant starts at ₹1,74,999 in India, and the top-end model goes even higher.

This is the most expensive foldable smartphone ever in India. Some justify it for its build and feature richness, but the price point may be too high for some buyers.

Early Verdict

Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is a bold and refined foldable. Its lightweight and sleek design makes it extremely practical for everyday use. The 200MP camera and Snapdragon 8 Elite make its performance a flagship.

However, the lack of an S Pen, the same old battery, and the high price could prove to be a trade-off for some users. If you want a premium, powerful, and stylish foldable and the S Pen isn’t a must, the Fold7 is a top option.
