Tata Nexon EV vs Mahindra XUV400 : Electric SUVs have started gaining popularity in India, with the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400 among the front contenders. By 2025, we still cannot decide who fares better in electric performance, looks, or green features. With the comparison done, you can surely choose between these two EV rivals as per your preference.

For some time now, the Tata Nexon EV has been India’s best-selling electric SUV. The major update given to it by Tata in 2024 made it sharper in design and thus improved styling in the interior and features. The spaciousness and powerful motors, however, work in favor of the Mahindra XUV400, which is really quite strong competition for the Nexon, being Mahindra’s first all-electric SUV from the base of the XUV300.

Speaking of design, Nexon-EV is more avant-garde and futuristic with its lustrous headlamps, signature EV grille, and a semblance of a coupe-ish stance. On the contrary, the XUV400 comes across as bold and muscular with traditional SUV stature. If being modern and compact speaks to you, then there is no second-guessing with the Nexon; however, the traditional SUV lover would find some charm in the more mature external appeal of the XUV400.

The Tata Nexon EV starts with an enormous 12.3-inch touchscreen display and a digital driver display, with touch HVAC control, connected car technology features, etc. The spaces offered with the XUV400 are more basic and much smaller with only a 7-inch screen; the feel, albeit spacious, does work but never offers the Nexon kind of premium sensation.

Performance-wise, the Nexon EV is offered in two variants, Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR), with ranges of 325 km and 465 km, respectively. The Mahindra XUV400 offers a range of 375 km from its larger 39.4 kWh battery. On the road, the XUV400 feels more powerful with more torque, whereas the Nexon EV is nicely smooth and friendly in the city.

Both cars offer fast charging and share core safety features such as six airbags, ABS, and ESC, whereas Tata’s service network and EV support system is more entrenched across the country.

In terms of tech-laden styling, tractor-centric and urban-purposed EVs, Tata Nexon EV really takes the cake. But if space and highway performance are strong considerations, then Mahindra XUV400 is quite a good offer. Both are terrific options and it really comes down to a choice between plush high-tech comfort versus lively performance and extra cabin space.
