Tata Motors breaks all records: becomes the second largest car company in India in September 2025

India’s leading automobile company, Tata Motors, made such a splash in September 2025 that the entire auto sector was stunned. Taking advantage of the new GST rules and the increased demand during the festive season, the company recorded record-breaking sales. Historic Sales Surge

In September 2025, Tata Motors sold a total of 60,097 units (including electric vehicles), representing a 47.4% increase compared to 41,313 units sold in September 2024. This figure demonstrates the company’s strong performance not only in the domestic market but also in exports. According to Vahan data, Tata Motors sold 40,594 units domestically, making it India’s second-largest automaker. In comparison, Mahindra sold 37,015 units and Hyundai sold 35,443 units.

Growth in both sales and exports

Tata Motors achieved domestic Passenger Vehicle (PV) sales of 59,667 units, a year-over-year increase of 45.3%. Exports of 1,240 units were recorded, a massive 396% jump from just 250 units last year. Furthermore, the company’s electric vehicle (EV) segment also performed exceptionally well. Tata Motors sold 9,191 electric cars in September 2025, a 96.4% increase compared to 4,680 units last year. This means that every step the company takes is now moving towards an electric future.

Record Performance in EV and CNG Segments

Tata Motors’ green fuel portfolio also performed well. Sales of the company’s electric cars increased by 96%, while sales of CNG vehicles reached 17,800 units, a 105% increase compared to last year. This demonstrates Tata Motors’ rapid progress not only in conventional engines but also in environmentally friendly technology. Vehicles like the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Tiago EV have become popular among customers.
