The Yamaha RX 100, which ruled the roads in the 90s, was known for its tremendous performance and great pick-up. Its ‘ring-ding-ding’ sound still resonates in the heart of every bike lover. Recently, news of the relaunch of this bike came out, which filled people with great enthusiasm. But now a senior Yamaha official has spoken about the difficulties in its launch, due to which its return seems difficult.

Why is the return of ‘Ring-Ding-Ding’ difficult

Yamaha Motor India President Ishin Chihana has revealed the biggest challenge in re-launching the RX100. The RX100 earlier came with a 2-stroke engine, which was famous for its special ‘ring-ding-ding’ sound. But due to pollution rules, the production of 2-stroke engines has been stopped. In today’s time, all bikes come with 4-stroke engines, which are environmentally friendly. According to Chihana, it is almost impossible to produce that ‘ring-ding-ding’ sound with a 4-stroke engine, and this is why the company is facing difficulty in its comeback.

The challenge of strong performance in lightweight

The Yamaha RX 100 was also known for its lightweight and excellent performance. But in today’s time, due to safety and pollution rules, the weight of the bike has to be increased. Ishin Chihana said that excellent performance cannot be expected from a 100cc bike. To give the same strong pick-up as the RX 100, at least a 200cc engine will have to be installed in it, due to which the weight of the bike will increase a lot, and its original ‘character’ may be lost. This is also a big reason that is delaying its launch.

Will the Yamaha RX 100 be launched only after 2026?

Earlier, there were reports that the Yamaha RX 100 could be launched soon, but now, after the statement of the company’s president, it seems that the wait may be longer. Chihana said that it may take 3 to 4 more years for this bike to come to the market; that is, its launch will happen only after 2026.

Despite all these challenges, Yamaha wants to ensure that if the RX 100 comes back, it does not compromise on its old style and performance at all. Although this is a bit disappointing news for bike lovers, it is expected that when this bike comes back, it will be worth the wait.
