Rules for the Devuthani Ekadashi fast

- Tulsi leaves are not plucked on Ekadashi, and if Tulsi leaves are needed for hunger, they should be plucked a day in advance.
- One should not criticise anyone, lie, or argue with anyone during the Ekadashi fast.
- One should not sleep on Ekadashi and should engage in bhajan-kirtan on such occasions.
- The fast should be broken only on the next day, during the auspicious time of Dwadashi.
- One should not consume rice or any tamasic food during the Ekadashi fast.
