Aadhaar Card Format Change: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced significant changes to the Aadhaar card enrolment process. These updates have been implemented mainly to strengthen citizens’ privacy and data security. Under the new rules, padhaar applicants will receive a revised format that limits the display of personal information and provides stronger protection against data misuse.
Details about these changes have been clearly displayed at Aadhaar enrolment centres to ensure public awareness. Centre operators have also been instructed to inform applicants about the new rules during the enrolment process.
Father’s or Husband’s Name Removed for Adults
Per the updated Aadhaar card format, individuals under 18 will continue to have their father’s name printed on their Aadhaar card, as was done earlier. However, no correction or modification facility will be available for children under 18 regarding this detail.
For individuals aged 18 years and above, a significant change has been introduced. The Aadhaar card will no longer display the father’s or husband’s name. Instead, only the applicant’s name and address will appear on the card. This move aims to reduce unnecessary personal disclosures and enhance individual privacy.
Birth Date Display Rules Also Revised
UIDAI has also made changes related to the date of birth displayed on Aadhaar cards. In older Aadhaar cards, the full date of birth, including the day, month, and year, was visible.
Under the new Aadhaar card format, only the year of birth will be mentioned. The day and month of birth have been removed. According to officials, this step will help prevent misuse of personal data and further enhance privacy protection for Aadhaar holders.
What Changes During New Aadhaar Enrolment?
Centre operators have clarified that while applying for a new Aadhaar card, the option to enter the father’s or husband’s name will no longer appear on the portal for applicants aged 18 or above. This option will now be available only to those under 18.
UIDAI has also assured citizens that all existing Aadhaar records and previously collected data will remain safe and securely stored in the database. These changes will not affect old Aadhaar cards or historical data.
Why did Udid IDAI introduce these changes?
These updates are part of UIDAI’s broader effort to align Aadhaar with modern data protection standards. By limiting the visibility of sensitive personal details, the authority aims to give citizens greater control over their identity information while maintaining the reliability of the Aadhaar system.
