Maha Shivratri 2026 Special Bhang Ladoo Recipe: Every devotee of Lord Shiva eagerly awaits Mahashivratri. It is believed that on this day, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were united. In 2026, this wave of devotion will surge on February 15th. While Lord Shiva is pleased even with just a pot of water, when it comes to his favorite ‘prasad’ (offering), bhang (cannabis) is always mentioned. If you also want to make something special at home this time, along with visiting the temple, then ‘Bhang ke Laddoo’ (cannabis sweets) are an excellent option. Let’s learn an easy and unique way to make them.
Is Mahashivratri on February 15th?
Yes, according to the Hindu calendar, Mahashivratri in 2026 will be celebrated on February 15th (Sunday). The Chaturdashi tithi (fourteenth day) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Phalguna month falls on this day.
Essential Ingredients
You don’t need much fuss to make these laddoos. Just gather these things:
Bhang paste: 2-3 tablespoons (made from grinding fresh leaves)
Mawa (khoya): 250 grams
Sugar: 200 grams (powdered sugar or jaggery is better)
Pure Desi Ghee: 2 tablespoons
Dry fruits: half a cup (finely chopped cashews, almonds, and pistachios)
Cardamom powder: 1 teaspoon (for fragrance)
Method (Step-by-Step Recipe)
Step 1: Preparing the Bhang First, wash the bhang leaves thoroughly and grind them finely in a mortar and pestle or a mixer to make a paste. If you are using bhang powder, roast it lightly in ghee to enhance the flavor.
Step 2: Roasting the Mawa Heat some ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan and add the mawa (khoya). Roast it on medium heat until a fragrant aroma is released and its color turns light golden.
Step 3: The Mixing Game Now, add the cannabis paste to the roasted mawa and stir for another 2-3 minutes. This will remove the raw taste of the cannabis. Now add the chopped nuts and cardamom powder and turn off the gas.
Step 4: Let the sugar and the laddu mixture cool down slightly (until lukewarm). Note: If you add sugar to hot mawa, it will melt and turn into syrup, and the laddus will not bind properly. Now add the sugar and, using ghee on your palms, shape the mixture into round laddus.
Pro Tip: To enhance the taste and appearance, you can garnish these laddus with grated dry coconut or silver leaf.
Shivratri Special Tips:
Use cannabis in moderation, as this is a prasad (offering).
If you are making this for a fast, ensure that the mawa is absolutely fresh and pure.
Har Har Mahadev! This Mahashivratri, make these special laddus and receive the blessings of Lord Shiva.
