The Railways have announced a significant relief for passengers! The Vaishali Express, which runs on the North Eastern Railway route, has been upgraded from a superfast to an express train. Passengers from Bihar will benefit the most from this change, as they will now have to pay a lower fare. Passengers on this route will no longer be charged superfast train fares and can easily travel at express fares.
Why has the Vaishali Express’s status and route changed

The Vaishali Express, which was under the supervision of the Railway Board, has been removed from the North Eastern Railway. Following the extension of the route to Lalitgram (Supaul) on October 2nd, the train’s number has been changed, effective December 7th. Previously numbered 12553/12554, the Vaishali Express has now been renumbered 15565/15566.
Railway experts state that the Vaishali Express, numbered 15565/15566, has now been transferred to the East Central Railway. The Railway Board will no longer oversee this train. Upon leaving the Board’s supervision, this train was downgraded from Superfast to Regular Express status, resulting in a direct fare reduction.
How much did the fare decrease in which class
With the removal of Superfast status, fares across all classes have been significantly reduced:
- Sleeper class fares have been directly reduced by ₹30.
- Superfast fares for AC Third and Second Class have been reduced by ₹45.
- AC First Class fares have seen the largest reduction of ₹75.
The new fares for the Vaishali Express from Gorakhpur to New Delhi are now ₹420 in Sleeper Class, ₹1135 in AC Third, ₹1615 in AC Second, and ₹2700 in AC First. For comparison, the Gorakhdham Express fare on the same route is ₹450 for Sleeper, demonstrating the benefits this decision has for passengers.

Train timings have also been partially changed
Following this change, the departure time of the Vaishali Express from Gorakhpur has been advanced by five minutes. It will now depart at 5:00 pm instead of 4:55 pm. However, it will still take 13 and a half hours to reach New Delhi. The Vaishali Express also has an interesting history. This train was previously known as the Jayanti Janata Express. Later, in 1975, it was renamed the Vaishali Superfast Express.
