Aadhaar Update: Aadhaar mobile update: Big news for Aadhaar cardholders! UIDAI has revealed that soon, citizens will be able to update their mobile numbers right from home. No need to trek to an Aadhaar center anymore. This is a game-changer for those who struggle to make it to a service center every time.

UIDAI shared on X (formerly Twitter) that this new feature will let people update their registered mobile numbers remotely. While they haven’t given a specific launch date yet, UIDAI assures that the process will be a lot easier and more convenient than what we have now.

How do you update your mobile number now?

At the moment, if you want to update your mobile number, you have to go to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrollment center, where they do biometric authentication. But with the new feature, you won’t have to make that physical trip anymore.

UIDAI is working on making this process online, using biometrics or secure OTP verification. You’ll be able to do this through the myAadhaar portal or app.

Why is a mobile number important for Aadhaar?

Linking a mobile number to your Aadhaar is essential for many services and accessing various government benefits.

– OTP based authentication

– Government subsidies and benefits

– Bank KYC

– Income Tax Verification

– Use of DigiLocker and other digital services

How will the new feature function?

UIDAI plans to use both OTP verification and face authentication in the update process. This means Aadhaar holders can verify their identity by scanning their face with their smartphone camera. The whole process will be digital, so no office visit is needed.

What’s the fee for an Aadhaar update?

If you’re changing your name, address, gender, date of birth, mobile number, or email address along with a biometric update, it’s completely free. But if you do these updates separately, there will be a fee of Rs 75 for each update. UIDAI has also updated the list of documents to simplify the Aadhaar update and enrollment process. Previously, people faced significant difficulties due to lack of documents or confusion, but the new rules will significantly reduce this difficulty.
