Main Objective of the Scheme
The scheme aims not only to increase greenery in cities but also to encourage people to grow organic vegetables, fruits, and flowers at home. Pollution control, environmental protection, and providing clean air to urban residents are the government’s primary goals. Additionally, rooftop-grown vegetables and fruits can prove to be safer and more beneficial for people’s health.
Subsidies Under the Scheme
The government has decided to provide two types of assistance under this scheme. The total cost of a rooftop gardening unit has been fixed at ₹10,000, on which the government will provide a 75 per cent subsidy, i.e. ₹7,500. For setting up a farming bed, ₹45,000 will be provided for a unit costing ₹60,000. This year, an additional ₹10,000 has been increased in this area. The amount for the farming bed unit will be disbursed in two instalments: the first instalment of ₹40,500 and the second instalment of ₹4,500.

This scheme is available to residents of select urban areas of Bihar. Currently, residents of Patna, Gaya, Phulwari Sharif, Danapur, Khagaul, and Bihta can avail the scheme. Applicants will be selected through a transparent lottery system.
