Indian Railways Guidelines: Every day, millions of individuals travel via Indian Railways, and occasionally, some may fall ill while aboard a moving train. In such cases, they often feel anxious about what steps to take next. If you find yourself in this situation, we have a solution for you today. If a loved one or any other passenger in your coach suddenly feels unwell, you can request a doctor while on the train. Let’s explore the process and associated fees.
How to request a doctor on the train?
As per Indian Railways, if someone becomes ill on a moving train, the first step is to notify the TTE. The TTE will then contact the control room, and a doctor will be dispatched to the next station to assist the patient. This service provided by Indian Railways is not complimentary. Passengers are required to pay a nominal fee of 100 rupees. After the treatment, the passenger will hand over the 100 rupees to the doctor, who will issue a receipt to the passenger. Furthermore, if any medication is prescribed, the passenger will need to cover that cost separately.
If a passenger experiences pain, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or allergies while on a moving train, they should inform the TTE. The TTE will then retrieve a single dose of medication from the guard’s compartment. This single dose is provided at no cost to the passenger and is completely free.
Passengers can reach out using this number
Railway officials state that medical services will be accessible to passengers on all train types, including passenger, mail, and express trains. If a passenger feels unwell during their journey, they can call the railway helpline number 138 or directly inform the TTE or guard.
