Aadhaar Card Update: UIDAI has signed an agreement with Behavioral Insights Limited (BIT) to simplify children’s Aadhaar updates. This important partnership aims to modernize, simplify, and make the Mandatory Biometric Update process more user-friendly. According to current regulations, every child is required to update their biometrics at the ages of 5 and 15. During this update, the child’s fingerprint, iris scan, and photo are re-taken to ensure accurate and valid records.

Why Parents Delay Updates
UIDAI’s analysis found that many parents are unable to update their children’s biometrics on time due to confusion, lack of information, or inconvenience. Many families find the update process cumbersome or lack timely information. This delay impacts children’s Aadhaar-related services, making it difficult for them to access government benefits.
UIDAI and BIT will jointly conduct behavioral research to understand this reason. Experts will try to identify what prevents parents from updating and what measures can be taken to encourage them to complete the process on time. Subsequently, simple language notifications, timely reminders, and intuitive communication tools for families will be developed.
Full Fee Waiver for Children Between 7 and 15 Years
To encourage biometric updates, UIDAI has completely waived the fee for children between 7 and 15 years of age from October 1, 2025. This waiver is applicable for one year and will directly benefit millions of families. Families who previously postponed updating due to fees will benefit especially greatly from this relief. UIDAI believes that the fee waiver will encourage parents to complete their child’s MBU without delay.
Why is this initiative important?
According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, integrating behavioral science with technology will not only improve Aadhaar services but also make them more effective and tailored to the needs of families. They say this initiative is designed to ensure accurate child Aadhaar records and simplify the parental experience. Similarly, BIT CEO Rachel Coyle believes that behavior-based methods can significantly help ensure timely biometric updates, allowing children to seamlessly access schemes and identity services.
Why Timely Updates Are Important
As children grow older, their biometric data naturally changes. Therefore, timely biometric updates ensure accurate, valid, and usable Aadhaar records. This is crucial because Aadhaar is linked to numerous government schemes, scholarships, identity documents, school admissions, and welfare programs. Accurate records ensure children have no difficulty accessing these services.
