Aadhaar card is one of the most important identity documents for Indian citizens. Especially for women after marriage, adding husband’s name instead of father’s name in Aadhaar card or changing address becomes a very urgent task. Till now, common people had to face various problems while doing this work, the main reason of which was lack of proper documents. However, now UIDAI has brought good news for Aadhaar card users. There has been a radical change in the rules for changing the name of ‘Care Of’ or guardian, which will reduce the harassment of common people to a great extent.

Benefits of Aadhaar update without documents

Earlier, to update the address or guardian’s name based on the information of ‘Head of Family’ (HoF) or head of the family in Aadhaar card, multiple supporting documents had to be uploaded. If marriage certificate, ration card or any other government proof could not be obtained, the application would be rejected. But this complication has been completely removed in the new rules. From now on, this change is possible only on the basis of the consent of the head of the family (father or husband). For this, the applicant does not need to upload any additional documents, only a ‘self-declaration’ is sufficient.

Complete process of applying

This can be done online from home. For this, follow the steps below carefully:

1. Enter the official portal: First, the applicant has to go to the ‘My Aadhaar’ portal and login with his Aadhaar number. Remember, it is mandatory to link the mobile number with Aadhaar for login.

2. Option selection: After logging in, select the ‘Address Update’ option from the dashboard. Then click on the ‘Head of Family (HoF) Based Address Update’ option from the two options.

3. Provide guardian information: Enter the Aadhaar number of the person you want to add as a guardian (father or husband) in the specified place. Then select your relationship with him (e.g. Father, Husband) from the dropdown menu.

4. Fee payment: For this service, you have to pay a processing fee of 75 taka. If the payment is successful, you will get an SRN (Service Request Number). Write it down carefully or save it.

What to do for final approval

Many people think that the application is done, but the most important step in this process is the approval of the head of the family. Failure to do this will invalidate the entire process.

The person you have mentioned as HoF (father or husband) will have to log in to his own Aadhaar portal.

After logging in, you will have to go to the option called ‘My Head of Family Request’.

There, you will see a notification of your application. He will have to click on the ‘Accept’ button to confirm his consent after checking the SRN number you received.

Some important precautions

It is very important to remember some technical aspects of this simple procedure, otherwise you may face problems in the future:

Exact copy of information: The exact spelling of the address or surname on the card of the person whose Aadhaar you are using as a reference will be printed on your card. So, if there is any mistake in his information, that mistake will also appear on your card.

Refund Policy: Once the payment is made, if the head of the household cancels the request or does not accept it on time, then the processing fee of Rs. 75 will not be refunded in any way.

Timeframe: Normally, the new Aadhaar card is generated within 30 days of the head of the household giving consent.

This new initiative will benefit people from all walks of life, be it rural or urban, as it is now possible to update relationships and addresses without the hassle of paperwork.
