Aadhaar Update Rules: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has released a new list of valid documents for updating Aadhaar cards and issuing new ones. These revised rules have been implemented for the assessment year 2025-26. UIDAI has clarified that each individual is allowed to have only one Aadhaar number. If more than one Aadhaar number is found in a person’s name, only the first Aadhaar will be considered valid.

According to UIDAI, due to technical glitches or repeated applications, sometimes more than one Aadhaar number is generated in the name of the same person. In such cases, the Aadhaar in which the biometric information was first recorded remains active and valid. The other Aadhaar numbers are automatically considered invalid.

Why Correct Documents are Necessary for Aadhaar Updates
Verification of documents is crucial for updating information such as name, address, date of birth, or family relationships on the Aadhaar card. The new list issued by UIDAI clearly specifies the types of documents that will be accepted for identity, address, date of birth, and relationship verification.

Which Documents are Valid for Proof of Identity
For identity verification, documents that clearly show the person’s identity along with a photograph will be accepted. This includes PAN card, Voter ID, driving license, or any photo identity card issued by a government department.

Which Documents are Required for Address Update
To change or update the address in Aadhaar, documents that confirm the place of residence will be required. These include electricity, water, or gas bills, bank passbook, ration card, or official documents related to any government housing scheme.

Required Proof for Date of Birth Update
For correcting the date of birth, a birth certificate, passport, or educational certificates such as SSLC can be used. UIDAI verifies the date of birth based on these documents.

To prove family relationships, documents such as ration card, MNREGA job card, or birth certificate issued with the names of the parents are accepted.

To update their Aadhaar details, individuals need to log in to the myAadhaar portal using their Aadhaar number. After logging in, it is important to carefully review the information displayed on the screen. If the information is correct, the confirmation option must be selected. Then, the correct identity and address proofs are selected, and the relevant documents are uploaded. All files must be in the specified size and format. Finally, submitting the form completes the update process.
